Quantum cryptography put to work for electric grid security Posted: 15 Feb 2013 10:33 AM PST Recently a Los Alamos National Laboratory quantum cryptography (QC) team successfully completed the first-ever demonstration of securing control data for electric grids using quantum cryptography. |
Combo of Avastin, Second Drug Shows Promise Fighting Brain Cancer, Mayo Clinic Finds Posted: 15 Feb 2013 10:27 AM PST The drug bevacizumab, also known by the trade name Avastin, shrinks tumors briefly in patients with an aggressive brain cancer known as glioblastoma multiforme, but then they often grow again and spread throughout the brain for reasons no one previously has understood. Now, Mayo Clinic researchers have found out why this happens. They have also discovered that pairing Avastin with another cancer drug, dasatinib, can stop that lethal spread. Dasatinib is approved for use in several blood cancers. |
Researchers uncover new findings on genetic risks of chronic inflammatory disorder Behçet's disease Posted: 15 Feb 2013 07:27 AM PST Researchers don’t know the exact cause of Behçet's disease, a chronic condition that leads to oral and genital sores and serious complications such as blindness, but new research brings better understanding to what makes some people more susceptible to being affected. Study identifies regions of genes linked to Behçet’s, a poorly understood condition that causes painful and serious symptoms, including ulcers and brain inflammation. |
